Basic Info

The CRLiterature Chatroom is the unofficial "official" safe hangout for writers when they have questions, want to chat shop, or just want to chat with other writers about general topics. The room is moderated by current and former literature Community Volunteers as well as the contributors at the CRLiterature group. We like to keep things light-hearted, so while we encourage free speech and open discussion about even controversial topics we do have a few rules that you are expected to follow if you want to continue chatting.

User Classes

Current lit CVs are sorted into the Hacks privclass in the chat, and other admins of CRLiterature are sorted into the Typewriters privclass. Poke us, we don't bite - even though we enter and leave the room unannounced like word-ninjas!

All incoming new users to the room are categorized as Eclectics, and as an Eclectic you can post up to two emoticons on each line if that's a thing you're worried about. We also have three special privclasses if you want to specify your literary poison of choice - Linebreakers, Prosemonkeys and Scriptwriters. To be sorted just ask one of the Hacks or Typewriters if we're online, or comment on this journal if we aren't.

We also have privclasses for Bots (though we don't allow unaffiliated bots in the room), TimeOut for muted users, and Banned for users who break our rules repeatedly or severely. If you have been sorted into one of these privclasses and feel like you shouldn't have been, please Note Us at the group and we'll look into it for you.

Rules

Before we get to our specific rules, please take a look at the site's Etiquette Policy and Chat Network Policies. We are required to follow and enforce the Chat Network general rules as well as the specific rules for unofficial rooms. They are straightforward: No spamming, no commercial uses of the chat network, no breaking the law, no explicit discussions of certain topics outlined in the policies.

Our additional room-specific rules are as follows:

:bulletgreen: Don't share your art in the chatroom unless you're asked to by a moderator or if it's relevant to a conversation you're having with another user. If you want to share your art, you can try the chatroom #ThumbHub.

:bulletgreen: Unless it's literature and you want feedback. Then, ask in the room if anyone's interested in giving you a critique. If no one is responsive please check out the Literature Forum; every month we post a critique thread where users are invited to post their work seeking feedback, and that thread is always stickied at the top of the list.

:bulletgreen: Don't RP. There are plenty of RP rooms on the chat network, and they'll all be more receptive to your RPing efforts. When users RP in non-RP-specific rooms it may turn away other newcomers and frustrate chat regulars.

:bulletgreen: If you have any concerns about something that happened in the chatroom, or have an issue with anyone in the room, please Note Us. The note should explain the issue in detail, and a copy of a chatroom log will make it easier for us to advise you.

:bulletgreen: Mutes in the chatroom will usually only be for a day or two, but bans are indefinite. You can always contact us to discuss it. But consider yourself warned: We keep a backroom thread about administrative actions taken in the chatroom, with reasons and logs, so we'll know if you are lying to us.

:bulletgreen: And above all else - Chat Safely and Have Fun! Hope to see you soon in CRLiterature. :)
